Overview
This IDC Health Insights Perspective highlights a vision for the adoption of IT cloud solutions by the life science industry. As one of the major new IT innovations de jour, the definition of an IT cloud varies depending on who is speaking about it. Beginning with a definition, this Perspective describes a significant new market opportunity for the life science industry to transform the way it performs and manages IT infrastructure within an organization. Leveraging emerging best practices from other industries, this new approach can be expected to address multiple concerns impacting the industry today, including improving operational effectiveness, working in increasingly global ecosystem, and streamlining M&A integration efforts, all while reducing current and future infrastructure costs. While still early in its growth and adoption, we anticipate that clouds will be a significant contributor to organizational success over the long term and represent the IT infrastructure of the future.
