Overview

This IDC Health Insights Perspective is part of a series of documents profiling the ehealth initiatives in Canada's 10 provinces. This document profiles Canada's provincial ehealth topography for the province of Alberta, specifically focusing on the following factors:

  • Strategic focus
  • Governance
  • Electronic health record/electronic medical record (EHR/EMR)
  • Procurement
  • Financing and money flow
  • Security and privacy
  • Certification
  • Standards
  • Key vendors

For a more detailed definition of each of these factors, please see the Terminology section near the end of the document.

The information included in this document has been compiled from a combination of the following primary and secondary sources: individual interviews with provincial ehealth leaders, preexisting IDC market research, documentation from conferences and press releases, and documents from prominent ehealth stakeholders like Canada Health Infoway ("Infoway") and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Interviews with ehealth executives were open ended, and as such the depth and breadth varied by participant.
