IDC Health Insights Examines What the French Hospital Sector Will Look Like in 2013
MILAN, Italy, March 31, 2010 – IDC Health Insights EMEA and IDC France have completed a special study focused on the combined implications of changes in the French hospital system, the role of ICT, the delivery of care, and the competitive ICT environment.
"Our findings highlight that executives in the larger hospitals foresee a more significant role for technology departments as the new French healthcare reform, called 'Hôpital, patients, santé et territories' (HPST - Hospital, patients, health and territory), is implemented. Ensuring that technology will improve patients care and treatment is the real challenge here," said Silvia Chiara Piai, EMEA senior research analyst with IDC Health Insights.
"Analysing the impact of the reform, it emerged that 57% of IT executives who expect the HPTS to change their role see an opportunity to become shared service providers and ICT competency centres for other hospitals," added Cyril Meunier, consulting manager for IDC France.
IDC Health Insights and IDC France examined major French healthcare institutions, category associations, and IT vendors in order to understand what is problematic today with ICT in the hospital environment.
Hospitals in France are heavy ICT buyers, counting for some 67% of the French healthcare spending. Nevertheless, this does not convey a clear understanding of what the current needs are and how hospitals are expected to evolve, especially considering their concurrent organizational changes.
To better understand this, IDC surveyed executives from more than 150 French hospitals about current and future healthcare-specific technology adoption. The special study also solicited opinions on the effects of the reform law and of the new wave of funds coming in the next months. In addition, the study examines barriers and opportunities to ICT implementation. An extensive analysis of the competitive landscape of software vendors in the French healthcare sector completes the study from a supply side perspective.
This study provides a comprehensive overview of the French healthcare market, including:
- IT spending forecast for 2009-2013, by technology segment and type of hospital
- Survey results analysis on more than 150 hospitals (with more than 200 beds)
- French healthcare sector software vendor competitive assessment (top vendor profiles, market shares, revenue analysis, special focus on clinical software vendors)
This study, Le marché informatique des établissements de soin- Bilan et Perspectives 2008-2013 (IDC #FR256, March 2010), by Silvia C. Piai and Cyril Meunier, is available for purchase on request.
